Reflections!!

This week we worked on Lab:  Enzymes in Detergents.  Write a reflection about this experience.  Here are some ideas for your reflection:

What?
—What happened?
—What did you observe?
—Did you learn a new skill or clarify an interest?
—Did you hear, smell, or feel anything that surprised you?
—How is your experience different from what you expected?
—What did you like/dislike about the experience?

Electromagnetic Waves!!

By now, you know that electromagnetic waves contain an electric part and a magnetic part.  These parts are called fields and vibrate at right angles to the wave motion.  Why is wireless technology, i.e, cell phones, wireless internet, sensitive to the electric component rather than the magnetic component of electromagnetic waves????

Waves, waves, waves!!!!

An ocean earthquake can generate a series of powerful water waves called tsunamis (tsu - harbor, nami - wave).  At sea, these waves may not even be felt by fishermen and sailors.  By the time a tsunami reaches land, however, it may have a height anywhere from 30 meters to 50 meters.  Sometimes they can become  mega-waves, reaching between 100 to 300 meters.  Why is it that ships out in the high seas don't feel the impact of tsunami waves, while coastal communities are destroyed by them???????

Mercalli or Richter?????

Are earthquakes that powerful?

The violent earthquake that stroke Japan recently, shifted it's main island by 8 feet.  You can read about it using the following link:

Can we use this fact to support any of the theories learned in class?  Explain.
