Earthquakes and Volcanoes!!!

Are earthquakes and volcanoes completely unrelated, or could there be a possible connection?  Propose several ideas that might explain what causes these events.

  1. Hello people . Earthquakes-sudden release of energy in the earth's crust or upper mantle, usually caused by movement along a fault plane or by volcanic activity and resulting in the generation of seismic waves which can be destructiveRelated: seismic---- Volcano-a vent in the earth's crust through which lava, steam, ashes, etc., are expelled, either continuously or at irregular intervals.
In conclusion, i dont think they are the same! (Ps- i did not copy and pass-- serious)!!!!!!

  3. There actually is a relationship between earthquakes and volcanoes. The relationship is that they both occur on plate boundaries. Some things that causes these earthquakes and volcanoes are that volcanoes are formed on convergent plate boundaries. Earthquakes are formed on subduction zones. Well, that's all I have. That is how they are both related.

There's a connection between earthquakes and volcanoes. Earthquakes and volcanoes both occur when there's motion between two continental or oceanic plates. In a convergent plate boundary, when a oceanic plate collides with a continental plate, the oceanic plate sinks into the earth and creates a deep subduction zone. This causes molten material to rise up to the surface through the zone, forming a volcano. At the same time, if enough energy is stored, a focus point is generated, and this causes shockwaves to penetrate the earth's crust, forming a earthquake.

  6. Earthquakes and Volcanoes are not completely unrelated because they do have a connection. The Connection is that Earthquakes and volcanoes both occur at plate boundaries. Earthquakes are formed when a plate moves in any way whatsoever while Volcanoes form on are converging, and diverging plate boundaries.

  7. Hey,
Well, I totally agree that earthquakes and volcanoes are somewhat related.

First of all, when rocks move due to plate tectonics, we feel a vibration. These vibrations are known as earthquakes. Hence, when an oceanic and continental collides, earthquakes occur. In the other hand, while the oceanic plate sinks to the continental plate, excessive heat (molten rock) occurs. This causes volcano.

So, what I’m trying to say is that these two natural phenomenons are not the same thing but their formation is somewhat related.

  8. Earthquakes and volcanoes are not related because earthquake is a movement of the ground that occurs when rocks inside Earth pass their elastic limit. Or it's a vibration thats felt. Earthquakes are formed at divergent boundries while volcanoes form at convergent boundry because folding and faulting at the continental crust margin can thicken the crust to from mountain ranges which is a way that volcanoes are typically formed.

  9. I think that earthquakes and volcanoes are connected to each other. This is because volcanoes form when an oceanic plate sinks below a continental plate and allows molten rock to flow through. Whenever a plate movement occurs, sesmic waves are reaseased. That means when the oceanic and continental plates collide, they form sesmic waves. We humans reconize sesmic waves as earthquakes.

  11. Earthquakes and volcanoes are related because both occur when there's movement between plates. When there's movement in a transform boundaries or convergent boundaries a focus point is activated and causes seismic waves which would be the earthquake. A volcano forms when a oceanic and continental plate converges and the oceanic plate sinks into the earth creating a deep subduction zone. This causes molten material in earth to rise up through the zone and forms a volcano.

Can the next topic we talk blog about be on how earthquakes create tsunamis?

  12. i think earthquakes and volcanoes are related because they both form by plate boundaries. Earthquakes form at subduction zones and volcanoes form at convergent boundaries. Also they happen because the plates are disterbed from their original positions.

  13. I think that earthquakes do have a connection with volcanoes because they both occur at plate boundaries. They usually occur when two continental plates collide or two oceanic plates collide. A continental plate and oceanic plate converge causing the denser oceanic plate to go under the continental plate causing a subduction zone to form where volcanoes form.(Info. from pg. 160 in Glencoe Science Textbook.) Over long periods of time, rocks can change shape or deform. When they are strained, potential energy begins to build up, and is released suddenly when rocks break and move. This causes vibrations that can move through rocks or other earth materials. If the vibrations are big enough, earthquakes form. (Info. from pg. 178 from Glencoe Science Textbook.) Earthquakes form at different boundaries: transformation, convergent, or divergent. So both volcanoes and earthquakes are similar and different.

  16. I think that earthquakes and volcanoes are related. I think so because both occur when there is movement between plates.
When a tectonic plate sinks, it sinks down into the mantle and becomes very hot. It is so hot that the rock melts. This molten rock makes its way up to the surface of the earth through cracks. When it reaches the surface of the earth, it is called lava. As layer upon layer of lava builds up, a volcano is formed.
Stress in the earth's outer layer cause a pushing effect against the sides of the fault. Due to this motion, rocks slip or collide against each other releasing energy. This released energy travels in waves through the earth's crust and causes the shaking that we feel during an earthquakes.
I think that both of these are mostly alike because they do damage to places and could hurt people. I think so because if a volcano erupts, the lava{very hot} could make holes in the ground and burn people. Earthquakes makes cracks and holes in the ground.Furthermore, earthquakes makes the ground shake very hard and make buildings collapse, and when this happens it could fall on somebody.

  17. I think earthquakes are related to volcanoes because they both occur at plate boundaries. They are not completely related though because they form at different plate boundaries.

  19. There is a possible connection between earthquakes and volcanoes because both are caused by the motion and interaction of tectonic plates. Volcanoes and earthquakes occur at plate boundaries. When plates collide, transform, or diverge forces build up energy in rocks. The energy which is stored up is released causing earthquakes. When continental and oceanic plates converge at a convergent boundary, the denser oceanic plate plunges under the continental plate. This forms a subduction zone. Then molten rock forms and rises toward the surface creating volcanoes. Although volcanoes and earthquakes form differently, there locations are related to tectonic plate boundaries.

  20. I Think earthquakes and volcanoes are related because plate boundaries occur. If the continental plate coverges with the oceanic plate, the oceanic plate will slide under the the continental plate, since the oceanic plat is less dense and thinner. This will cause a subduction zone(<<.

  21. I believe that earthquakes and volcanoes are similar. The reason I think this is because they both depend on tectonic activity. They occur in areas where continental and sea floor plates meet. Most earthquakes occur near subduction zones. Volcanoes occur near divergent plate boundaries.

  22. Earthquakes and Volcanoes are not completely unrelated and they do have a connection with each other. Both of the two plates are forced up. Both have continental plate but volcanoes are made with an oceanic and continental plate that converges. Mountains have faulting that is reversed which generally makes reverse faulting. They both have faults but faulting in volcanoes make the continental crust thicker which makes mountain ranges. They both converge which means the plates are coming together.

  26. Um... i do think that earthquakes are realated to vocanoes in a way. Both earthquakes and valcanoes occur at the edges of tectonic plates, even tough they are formed differently. they might be unrelated because they form differently, for example an earthquake form when the tectonic plates press against each other. The rocks then collide against eachother and release energy. That energy then cause the shaking thet wee feel during an earthquake. volcanoes on the other hand are also formed by tectonic plantes. The platesz are the pieaces of rocks that float on the mantle. When a tectontic plate sicks down into the mantle it becomsz very hot, that the rock melts. It then floats up tu the eatrths surface formin a volcano!! so as you can see they are form differently but using the tectonic plates! Also another way these two thinqz r related is that they can both cause alot of damage. :)DONE BY ALISHA :) (I didnt copy off no one)!!

  27. I think volcanoes and earthquakes are somehow related to each other. And that is how they both form. Both phenomenons are caused by two plates colliding. For an earthquake, any movement of tectonic plates can cause it. For volcanoes, it forms at subduction zones. Subduction zones form when two plates (oceanic and continental) collide. This is why both volcanoes and earthquakes are related.

  28. Guys, stop spamming :'( this page is getting messy!!! He only wants your comments to be related to that topic ^. OR any suggestions, according to Mr. E.

  29. Volcanoes and earthquakes are related because they both occur at at convergent boundaries. They occur mostly when two continental, oceanic plates or a continental and oceanic plate collide. When a continental and oceanic plate collide, the oceanic plate has more density causing it to go under the continental plate. The oceanic plate sinks down into a deep subduction zone. Afterwards, molten material rises towards Earth's surface, producing a volcano. Typically, earthquakes can occur at any type of plate boundary. When plates produce any type of motion, enough energy is stored that when there is motion, it produces vibrations. These virbrations come back to us as earthquakes. Volcanoes and earthquakes may not form in the same exact way, but there formations are similar.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Earthquakes and volcanoes are related because they both need plates moving for them to occur. The two have different outcomes though. An earthquake makes the ground shake violently where it occurs, while a volcano has molten material shooting out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Volcanoes and Earthquakes are different yet the same at the same time. Depending on what your focusing on will tell you if they are similar or different. They both are formed by things called plates. This plates can form both earthquakes and volcanoes. If two plate suddenly slide past one another the sudden movement will cause the ground to shake. If a oceanic plate slides under a continental plate, a volcano will form. Volcanoes spew out out ash and lava, while earthquakes make the ground shake and can cause cracks in the earth. All in all an earthquake and volcano are similar yet different.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I believe that volcanoes and earthquakes are not totally unrelated. However, they are different in some ways. A similarity between them is that they occur or form from movements of plates. Furthermore, they both can cause serious devastation to near by civilians. They are different in the way that earthquakes can give the ground a massive shake and destroy things around the earthquake. On the other hand, volcanoes shout out hot lava and ash that can burn up, cover up, and wipe out up to an entire surrounding city. So basically, EARTHQUAKES AND VOLCANOES ARE BOTH SIMILAR AND DIFFERENT in many ways.

  35. I believe that there is a relation between volcanoes and earthquakes. This is because they both occur at plate boundaries, where motion and interaction of tectonic plates occur. A volcano can be formed at convergent boundaries, where an oceanic plate and a continental plate collide. When the two plates collide the oceanic will subduct or go under the continental plate due to the difference in density. When the oceanic plate subducts, molten material rises toward Earth’s surface, creating a volcano.
An earthquake can occur at any type of plate boundary. When plates converge, diverge or transform, forces build up energy in rocks. When enough energy is stored a focus point is generated. When the rocks are suddenly broken, seismic waves are released and travels through Earth. The vibrations caused by seismic waves are called earthquakes.
Although, these two spectacles are formed differently and are experienced by living things differently, doesn’t mean they are not related in any way. Volcanoes and earthquakes are both created in plate boundaries. Therefore, I conclude that there is a relation between volcanoes and earthquake.

  36. There is a relation between volcanoes and Earthquakes. They are related because both are formed when two continental plates collide. There are also differences between the two. A volcano forms when one plates goes under another and they send out lava. Earthquakes are different; it is when the ground shakes.

  37. "Are earthquakes and volcanoes completely unrelated, or could there be a possible connection?"
Well, Mr. E, I believe that the two are related, and have a possible connection. They are both formed due to continental plates collide, otherwise known as convergent boundaries.. At plate boundaries, motions occur, and earthquakes, volcaones, ridges, rift valleys, etc form. A volcano however, forms at a subduction zone as well. Earthquakes occur when seismic waves occur, and this creates violent vibrations in the earth's crust.

The vibrations are earthquakes, because when an oceanic plate and continental plate collides an earthquake starts. Also when the oceanic plate sinks with the continental plate heat occurs, and that causes a volcano.

  46. Earthquakes and volcanoes are not completely unrelated there's a pretty big connection between them. Well first, what is an earthquake and second what is an volcano? Earthquake is movement of the ground that occurs when rocks inside Earth pass their elastic limit, break suddenly, and experience elastic rebound and a Volcano is a cone-shaped hill or mountain formed when hot magma, solids, and gas erupt into Earth's surface through a vent. There's nothing similar in their meaning but they still have similar characteristics. Such as when they form. They both form when two plates collide. Therefore i can conclude they are related.
